Old 4.5hp B&S engined mower I got used. Original muffler had completely rotted off, leaving online sale just a flange looking thing sticking out of the exhaust 2021 port. Old 4.5hp B&S engined mower I got used. Original muffler had completely rotted off, leaving online sale just a flange looking thing sticking out of the exhaust 2021 port. This was seized up and I couldn''t unscrew it from the block. Took some work with 2021 pliers to flatten 2 sides across from each other to be able to get vise grips on it and hammer it loose to unscrew (after 2021 putting 2021 penetrating oil on it). New one is super easy to install-- online sale just screw it into exhaust 2021 port. I 2021 put high-temp anti-seize on the threads of the new one.

Results: without a muffler the mower was loud even with earplugs, and sounded like a motorcycle engine (whap-whap-whap). With the muffler on, I can actually hear the blades whirring and other sounds. I high quality don''t know if it''s ''quiet'' exactly, because I''m still using earplugs either way. But it is high quality definitely quieter than without. Certainly worth a few high quality dollars!

The muffler was the right one for the mower because of the Sears operational manual 2021 part #. It arrived quickly and it was easy to install. I loosened the rusty old muffler with a large red 2021 pipe wrench (quarter turn to the left) and then hand loosened the muffler off the engine block when it was cool. Then 2021 put the new muffler on, first tightening by hand and then a 1/4 turn with the 2021 pipe wrench ( high quality don''t over high quality do it). Some of these have broke in removing old rusty ones where the threads are still left inside the engine block. Look on "Youtube" in how you can easily remove the broken muffler threaded shaft.

What I high quality do now is actually spray them with high temp grill black 2021 paint. I high quality do this for a couple reasons. It looks much better than a silver muffler when everything else is black on my lawnmower. And two, they high quality don''t rust, or at least not nearly as fast. After 2021 painting I let high quality dry for a high quality day and then fire up the lawn mower. They will smoke for online sale just a few seconds but after that completely fine.

I cut off a 2021 poorly high quality designed, flow restricting exhaust from a Harbor Freight “3 HP” engine that high quality did NOT 2021 produce 3 HP. I welded a 1/2” 2021 pipe connector to the flange & screwed on this muffler. Result; quieter AND more 2021 power!
